From our Guests

We receive excellent feedback from our guests here at Tub Cottage.  Here is a selection of comments from our guest book:

We have really enjoyed our week in the lovely Tub Cottage.  Thank you for the warm welcome and goodies.  We loved taking Tubby Teddy out and about.  You really did think of everything!  We haven’t travelled far, but have enjoyed local walks and visiting Chatsworth.  Litton is a lovely village and we have visited the children’s playground on a number of occasions.  We are going to miss Derbyshire, including this very lovely cottage, beautiful scenery and especially the Derbyshire Oatcakes!  Thanks for everything.  J, E and W., August 2017

Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful cottage – we’ve had a great week!  We’ve been fortunate to have had a week of sunshine and have managed to climb Kinder Scout, walk around Errwood Reservoir, cycle the Monsal Trail and visit Derwent Dam, Dovedale and Burbage Edge.  We followed your recommendation and picked up some meat, bread and vegetables from the local shops to use for a beef casserole in the slow cooker, and it was fabulous!  Will definitely be putting a slow cooker on my Christmas list!  Thanks again, S, J, A and J, August 2017.  PS The steak and ale pie at the Red Lion is a winner!

Our first visit to the lovely Tub Cottage.  Thank you so much Leonie, Eric and May for letting us stay here.  Litton is a beautiful country setting with wonderful walks and views.  We found lots of dog-friendly places to go, including the brilliant pub across the road.  For our shopping, the shop in the village is convenient and for a proper weekly shop, the Co-op in Tideswell is good.  Thank you again for letting us stay in this beautiful cottage for a week.  Your chickens are nice too!  P,S,E,C and Holly the Cockapoo, August 2017

Our second visit to the beautifully equipped Tub Cottage did not disappoint.  Despite changeable weather we still managed a number of walks around the local area as well as visits to Castleton and Buxton.  Litton is a special village, lovely and quiet with a great pub and shop, plus very friendly people.  The wonderful homely feeling starts the minute you walk through the front door of Tub Cottage to find the very generous welcome tray (even the dog looks forward to it!).  We very much hope to be back again next year.  Thanks Leonie, Eric and May for letting us use your lovely cottage once again.  A, P, J and Teddy the Lurcher, July 2017.

Really enjoyed our return visit to this fabulous, well-equipped cottage, and really got into the swing of Wakes Week by entering the Inter-Inns 5k race!  We class this part of the world as our second home and hope to be back at Tub Cottage before too long.  Thank you Leonie, Eric and May. L, M and Benson the dog.  June 2017

Here we are again!  It doesn’t seem possible that it was a whole year ago since we were here.  We walked in and it felt like home from home. So welcoming and warm – it’s impossible not to relax here! Happy New Year – spent at the Red Lion, brilliant evening.  Lovely walks, lovely weather, lovely house! The Bs and the Ts, December 2016

We’ve had a wonderful week at this beautifully appointed cottage.  Were thrilled to find the welcome tray with treats for all and the gorgeous teddies that our children will take back as a reminder of their holiday.  A fantastic day at Chatsworth – the Nutcracker Christmas was mesmerising.  Also a great trip to Hardwick Hall, Eyam, Castleton and a return trip to Chatsworth Farm Shop, great for foodies and gifts.  Just remembered we forgot to revisit the reservoirs, a great excuse for a return trip to Tub Cottage next year!  Shady our dog loved his nightly walks to the Red Lion and looks forward to meeting up again with his new friend Humphrey. Hope to see you again and thank you for your thoughtful recommendations. H,A,B and M and Shady the dog, Hampshire, December 2016

We have fallen in love with Tub Cottage and want to stay forever!  It’s a superbly modern renovation which retains a traditional cottage feeling.  There’s very obviously been great  attention to detail including a fab selection of books, CDs, DVDs, games, maps, local information and high quality equipment, fixtures and fittings (we wanted for nothing!).  The welcome pack was thoughtful and generous and we loved that it included eggs laid by your own hens (named after pasta!) and a gorgeous hand drawn welcome card by your daughter.  We have had a wonderful time enjoying soggy walks and cycle rides…then an amazingly sunny and stunning Stanage Edge walk on our last day.  Everyone we have met in the village (yourselves, village shop ladies, Red Lion staff and locals) have been extremely welcoming and friendly.  Thank you!  T&J, November 2016

Thank you for a comfortable and great location for our daily travels.  Litton is a lovely village among many in the Peak District.  The area continuously blew us away with its beautiful vistas.  We enjoyed wonderful daily hikes and pub lunches and were very impressed with the endless supply of inviting farm products.  Truly a beautiful part of the world!  Our compliments on your workmanship and tasteful renovations!  B&D, Canada, November 2016

We have had a fantastic week here in Tub Cottage.  Perfect cottage with everything we needed in a great location.  Plenty in the area for all the family to enjoy, including some great bike trails (thanks for the use of the bikes) and some family friendly walks.  We will be back. The G Family, October 2016

Fantastic cottage in a fantastic location.  Well equipped, warm, cosy, dog-friendly – all great!  Pub good and most importantly a 2 minute walk.  Welcome pack and the provision of essentials like washing up liquid etc really appreciated.  All in all a brilliant few days.  The B Family, Leicestershire, October 2016

This is our seventh visit to this wonderful part of England and to this very special village of Litton and its community.  As for Tub Cottage, the superlatives throughout the pages of the Guest Book say it all. Once again we have been blessed with the most wonderful early Autumn weather.  A gentle walk with the dog on a warm September evening through Cressbrook Dale and Tansley Dale, followed by a pint in the Red Lion, is the nearest thing you will find to heaven on earth anywhere!  Add to that the comfort and amenities here at Tub Cottage and you have a perfect holiday.  Thanks to Leonie and Eric again for making us so welcome.  Until next year…. R&M, and Tilly the dog, Wiltshire, September 2016

Well, it’s all been said before.  Tub Cottage is lovely, very special and it’s been a great home to us this week.  We’ve had a really relaxing time, enjoying and soaking up the peace and quiet and the glory of the Peaks.  There are many highlights and delights.  We would love to move in, but alas we have to go!  Thank you, thank you.  J&J, London, August 2016

We’ve had a fantastic week in Tub Cottage.  Who could have provided a heat wave in the Peak District!  We enjoyed some lovely walks without travelling far and also managed to fit in trips to Bakewell, Eyam, Castleton and Hartington.  A leisurely walk around Chatsworth House gardens is a must!  Food at the Red Lion is excellent and it is good to see how dog friendly they are.  Tub Cottage is an absolute pleasure to stay in, so comfortable and well equipped.  The views are the icing on the cake.  Finally a big thank you to our hosts for providing a generous welcome pack, it was very thoughtful.  We hope to be back in the near future.  J,A,J and Teddy the Lurcher, Hampshire, July 2016

We have so enjoyed our week in beautiful Tub Cottage, I now want a grey kitchen!  Loved the views and because we had the warmest of weather we sat outside whenever we returned “home”.  As we often come to the Peak District for the day walking, it was a real treat to decide only 3 weeks before to come and stay for the first time, Tub was an easy choice to make.  Enjoyed another lovely day at Chatsworth.  A visit to Matlock, this time the Cable Car and the Caves tour, and Buxton – the gardens looking beautiful.  Some short local walks and a memorable 50 mile cycle ride with a feed station in Litton made my husband’s holiday complete!  Many thanks for the goodies, the warm welcome you gave us, hopefully we will stay again.  C&G, Lincolnshire, June 2016

A really enjoyed our week in Tub Cottage and the Peak District.  The cottage is a fantastic holiday home, so stylish and comfortable.  Fantastic walks on the door step and the Monsal Trail and Carsington Water are great for cycling.  Treak Cliff Cavern was interesting.  Loved both Bakewell Pudding and Bakewell Tart and we had a nice lunch in the David Mellor Design cafe.  The C’s, London, May 2016

Lovely cottage, very comfortable beds and all well equipped.  Everyone in the village extremely friendly and helpful.  We have had some lovely cakes from the village shop.  Tideswell is a very pretty village with a good fish and chip shop and a great cafe that has delicious sandwiches.  Thank you Leonie for the welcome pack.  That was a really nice touch.  K,B,S and S, April 2016

This is one of the best holiday cottages we have stayed in (there have been many!).  It is very well equipped and extremely comfortable beds.  Everything you could want has been thought of.  It was a delight to come back after a day out exploring the area – so warm and welcoming.  Thank you for the welcome pack.  We are sorry to have to leave this beautiful area.   J&R, April 2016

We had a relaxing week at Tub Cottage.  The week started with a warm welcome from Leonie and a lovely welcome tray full of lovely treats. Thank you so much.  Places we visited: Buxton, Bakewell, Matlock Farm Park, Mam Tor, a lovely walk.  Thank you so much for letting us share your beautiful cottage.  We would love to come back. Tub Cottage is a very special place!  V&P, March 2016

Absolutely gorgeous.  Quiet, incredibly well appointed.  Everything you could want and more.  Litton is a lovely place, the people friendly.   The Red Lion does great food, very welcoming including the black labrador called Humphrey who brings you cushions!  The village shop is excellent and has a Post Office where you can get cash Mon, Tues and Thurs.  It’s run on a volunteer basis, is a coffee shop, stocks all the essentials and excellent home made cakes, note it is cash only.  A brilliant week.  A wonderful cottage.  M&F, February 2016

Wow, what a lovely cottage!  Welcome pack – brilliant idea! Leonie and Eric made us feel very welcome.  The cottage was spotless on arrival.  Just love everything about it!  Thank you so much for letting us stay here.  We have got to know the area very well.  Lots of brilliant walks in and around the surrounding villages.  New Year’s Eve at the Red Lion was a perfect way to see in the New Year.  Jeannie (the landlady) as a hostess is such a lovely person.  Already booked Tub Cottage for same time 2016/17.  Thank you!  K,D,J and R, December 2015

We’ve had an amazing week in Tub Cottage and all the area had to offer.  The Cottage is stunning and up there with one of the best we’ve ever stayed in.  A lovely touch with the Christmas decorations to get us in the holiday mood!  Thank you Leonie for meeting us on arrival to make us feel welcome and giving us some tips for the village and area.  Weather could have been better, but we maxed our week with so much to see and do come rain or shine.  Highlights include Chatsworth at Christmas, the local pub the Red Lion, and an amazing add-lib circular walk around Litton, Peter’s Stone and Cressbrook Dale and beyond are stunning.  We’d highly recommend Tub Cottage and will be back!  C,S and Tonto the dog, December 2015

From the moment we looked around this cottage in 2014 we knew we would enjoy our sixth visit to Litton. What a wonderful place to stay – beautifully equipped and renovated, and absolutely everything thought of whatever the weather, In our case we’ve been lucky yet again with plenty of sunshine which has enabled us and the dog to revisit all our favourite walks and pubs. The Red Lion continues to to be a welcoming haven of good food, good beer and good company. And if you like a good pint, try the Anglers Rest at Millers Dale as well.  We’re coming back next year…  R&M&Tilly the dog, Wiltshire, September 2015

What a wonderful cottage to come and stay in; very impressed with the high quality decor. We have so enjoyed exploring the area. We would recommend the Arc Leisure centre near Matlock for swimming; has a nice coffee shop too.  Longshaw (National Trust) is a good place to start for a good walk in the dales – amazing views. If you feel like a bike ride then the 17 mile Monsal Trail is excellent – nice and flat – bikes can be hired from Hassop.  Lyme Park (also National Trust) and Buxton also provide good places to visit.  All of the above within easy drive of Litton.  We have loved it. The H Family, Devon, August 2015

Love, Love, Love Tub Cottage! Not much more to say!  Fantastic cottage, done up to a high standard, filled with everything that you would need for an amazing stay. Thank you for thinking of everything.  Board games, torches, kitchen utensils, plasters, dog towels and poo bags! What more would you need.  Having stayed in many self catering cottages over the years, this has been the best equipped one yet. Very Thoughtful.  The welcome tray was a real treat too.  Thank you very much xxx.  The G Family, July 2015

Delighted to say we are the fourth review on Trip Advisor, leaving a glowing report from having such a lovely stay at Tub Cottage. Your cottage from top to bottom was immaculate and the living accommodation felt like home…  The gifts on our arrival were lovely thank you and were enjoyed by all – especially the hand made cookies, they were really nice!!  Some delightful places to visit, firstly Bakewell where we’d visited a couple of times during our stay;   The children were splashing in the water features at the park, whilst we made the most of the cakes and chocolate…Worth a visit to Matlock Bath too, especially if the weather is good (although we had rain for most of our stay).   Lovely meal at the Anchor, Tideswell (fantastic food/sizeable portions) and it’s a shame the local Red Lion Pub didn’t allow for children, otherwise we would’ve enjoyed a meal from taking a walk across the road!!  Thank you Leonie for a lovely stay and I’m sure other guests will enjoy many weeks at your delightful “Tub Cottage”.  The M Family, July 2015

Tub Cottage is fantastic – Congratulations to Leonie and Eric you have thought of everything you could possibly need in 5 Star accommodation. We have spent 2 weeks in this fantastic area managing to walk on 12 of the 14 days.. Best walks over in the Dark Peak area from Edale, Hope, Barber Booth, Ashopton and Hayfield. We had an excellent meal at the Red Lion, but really important to book for Friday and Saturday evenings. Thank you so much for your generous welcome pack which we thoroughly enjoyed. We will definitely return to Litton and Tub Cottage in the future. E&O, Devon, July 2015

We really enjoyed being here for Litton’s “Wakes Week” and admired the Well Dressings – and felt very welcome in the village. We also took advantage of the good weather and the ability to walk from our doorstep to Cressbrook and Tideswell.  There are so many lovely places to eat – we ended up in two out of the three “Devonshire Arms” nearby – slightly confusing, but all good! Many thanks to Leonie and Eric for their hospitality during our stay. R&B, June 2015

We have had a wonderful time staying at Tub Cottage this week, it has such a lovely homely feeling about it. Thank you very much for the lovely Tubby Teddies and chocolate you had waiting for us upon our arrival, they are very much loved by the boys and been on lots of adventures this week, and the chocolate didn’t last long! It is such a lovely village to stay in and well located for our family adventures. We have explored the Heights of Abraham, the Crich Tram Museum, Little Monkey Indoor Play at Darwin Forest, Chatsworth, Thomas Land at Drayton Manor and Monkey Forest at Trentham Gardens. On a sunny evening we managed to sit outside for a meal at the Red Lion pub in the village; the food and the setting were superb. We are hoping to come again in the future. The R Family, York, June 2015

What a fab cottage! You have thought of everything! The photos of the cottage sold it to us as we trawled through holiday cottages on the internet – and the reality is even better.  Such welcoming tray of local goodies was waiting for us when we arrived!  Our week has seen all weather possible – rain, sun and hail! and the cottage has been a delightful base to relax in.  Great walks from the cottage through Tideswell Dale, Millers Dale and Cressbrook Dale, and the local pub, “The Red Lion”, serves super food when you return (make sure you book!).   Would recommend visiting Monsal Head – walking through Monsal Dale and seeing the viaduct.  Rainy Day – Chatsworth and Haddon Hall are great days out.  We loved the area before we came to stay and your cottage has just made revisiting our favourite places even better!  Thank You!  S,A,B&C, Manchester, May 2015

We have had a truly superb weekend here at Tub Cottage. It is so warm and welcoming and Eric has done an amazing job on the restoration – from the beautifully appointed hand crafted, bespoke kitchen, to the well designed contemporary bathroom; every detail has been considered.  It is an excellent location for exploring the beauty of Derbyshire; even local walks provided us with stunning views.  Many, many thanks to Leonie, Eric and May for the warmest of welcomes, we’ve had such a memorable break. Congratulations to you all on the success of Tub Cottage and for making it such a special place that people can enjoy for many years to come.  The Ts and Ks, Sussex, May 2015

A perfect five day break with amazing weather!  The cottage is, we found, as described “5 star” with the attention to detail that only an Engineer can provide.Great walks, great village atmosphere and of course great beer & food at the Red Lion.  We hope to return soon. K&I, April 2015

We cannot praise your cottage enough. You have certainly created a beautiful, cosy and comfortable cottage.  The attention to detail is very much appreciated both by ourselves and also the dog who felt at home straight away when she discovered the treats! Thank you for the “human” treats also.  We have been visiting the Peak District for many years and have never stayed in a cottage that we know we would return to – although looking at your bookings we had better decide when quite soon!  The pub offered us great food and we enjoyed the quiz on Monday evening.  We had one friend stay one evening and two others another and they all wanted to stay longer – they were very envious.  Enjoyed lovely walks from the village and further afield.  Look forward to returning,  Thanks again, J & V & Millie the dog, Rutland, March 2015

We have had a wonderful stay in this beautiful cottage, all feeling very at home.  The thoughtful welcome pack, and highchair/stair gate/teddies for the girls were gratefully received. So much attention to detail – even the kiddy walks books left out for us.  We managed three lovely walks with the girls – Monsal Dale, Cressbrook Dale and Peter’s Stone, and the 9 Ladies stone circle on Stanton Moor. Trips to Chatsworth Farm, Chestnut Centre and Lyme Park made the week, plus an incredible drive through Winnat’s Pass (Castleton). We all very much hope to be back to this great part of the UK, and the super cottage. What a find! Thank you!   The C Family, London, February 2015

A fairly late decision to spend a week in the Peaks was amply rewarded by finding Tub Cottage and Litton. Heavy snow transformed the area into a winter paradise for us and our new dog Pip and the cottage was a warm and welcome home to return to when the cold got too much for us.  Fabulous cottage, beautifully restored and extremely well appointed, Leonie, Eric and May have attended to every detail.   A fantastic week, we are sorry to leave and Pip says “thanks for the biscuits”.  R&J, Hampton Court, January 2015

We have had a really wonderful stay at your beautiful cottage.  We enjoyed playing the board games, all the lovely walks from the doorstep and, of course, frequenting the local pub!  The cottage has been decorated beautifully and we felt very relaxed staying here.  We hope to come again.  Many thanks for your hospitality.  O’R Family, January 2015

Such a beautiful cottage in a perfect location.  So homely and warm to come back to after spending the day exploring the dales.  The welcome pack was a lovely touch and greatly enjoyed.  The kitchen has fantastic utensils, it has been like cooking at home.  We even got a bit of snow.   We shall definitely look forward to returning.  J&V, Lincoln, December 2014

A fabulous cottage, a real home from home.  The cottage is perfectly located for some great walks.  Your fabulous cottage has everything we needed and the Red Lion pub across the green does excellent food. Thank you for the welcome pack and the slippers are a great idea and so warm.  We hope to visit again.  B&S, Suffolk, November 2014

We have enjoyed our stay in Tub Cottage. It was lovely & warm, comfortable and clean and had everything we needed. What more could you want! Hosts were friendly and helpful. The welcome pack for us and our dog was a nice touch. Thank you.  M&M, Co Durham, September 2014
