From our Guests

We receive excellent feedback from our guests here at Tub Cottage.  Here is a selection of comments from our guest book:

Thank you for the lovely welcome pack and for the reassurance of knowing that we would be safe here during these difficult times.  V&C October 2020

This will be the first of many visits to Tub Cottage as I actually feel rested for the first time in a long while.  Thank you for your hospitality.  D&P October 2020

Our 6th visit here and another fabulous week in this lovely cottage.  Covid-19 has meant that this is our only holiday this year, but everything is as perfect as ever.  Thanks to Leonie, Eric and May for all the extra work to make it possible to visit.  Things have been inevitably different, especially having to book meals at pubs in advance, but we’ve been lucky with the weather and enjoyed several new walks as well as old favourite ones.  This is a wonderful part of Britain and we are lucky to be able to enjoy it while having the comfort of Tub Cottage.  Until next time…  R&M September 2020

Thank you again for such an amazing visit (our 6th!).  Looking back in the visitor book, it seems so strange that although it was back in March when we last visited, only a few guests have stayed in the cottage since then – due to Covid-19.  We have achieved so much whilst we have been here.  A few highlights including a two-part walk of the Monsal Trail, a 12 mile walk out to Eyam, a walk through Cressbrook, Tideswell and Millers Dale and finally a walk over Monsal Dale.  Last visit of the day was discovering Peak Volumes in Tideswell, a fantastic second-hand book shop, highly recommend it!  L&M August 2020

Why would you want to stay in an up-market hotel, when you can stay at Tub Cottage for a fraction of the price!  We had everything we wanted and more!  Thank you!  A&C Feb 2020

This is one of the best cottages we have stayed in throughout the UK.  There is everything you could possibly need.  It is always warm and a cosy retreat after a lovely cold walk.  Visited Bakewell and recommend picking up pasties from the Pastie shop – they’re still warm by the time you get back to the cottage!  We can see why people return time and time again to Tub Cottage.  We certainly intend to!  T&S January 2020

We have stayed in many holiday cottages over the past 20+ years and Tub Cottage is certainly one of the best!  Cosy, comfortable and warm, making it lovely to return to at teh end of the day, especially in the cold, wet and autumnal weather.  The cottage has everything you could ask for, plus being across the green from an excellent pub.  Located in a pretty, quiet village gives easy access to much of what Derbyshire has to offer.   A&M Nov 2019

We can well understand why many of your guests are serial returners to Tub Cottage!  It’s so welcoming, comfortable and well-equipped and ideally situated for getting to know the Peak District.  We came seeking rest and relaxation and the cottage has been a wonderful retreat for us.  We hope to be back too!   Thank you for everything.  L&J July 2019

Our third fabulous stay in our Winter retreat.  Nothing disappoints, not even the weather – sun, snow, wind, mist – magical!  We can only re-emphasise what a fabulous cottage this is, so well equipped, so warm and homely, fantastic location with incredible walks on the doorstep and an amazing pub and such a friendly host in Leonie.  We’ll most certainly be back again next Winter.  A&A February 2019

This is our fifth stay in Tub Cottage and as we’ve said before, it won’t be our last!  As always, the cottage is immaculate, with the lovely welcome hamper, such a lovely touch.  Leonie always comes to welcome us.  This really is a magical place to stay and we have had the most wonderful week with lovely walks and meals at the Red Lion.  This is our magical place, thank you!  G&G, January 2019

Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful cottage.  Our first family break away with our 3 month old and we couldn’t have chosen a more perfect location.  The welcome tray was so thoughtful, especially the Tubby Teddy.  We would love to come back in the future, it really is a home from home.  A&L, December 2018

Our third visit to Tub Cottage and each time we grow to love it even more.  Have had a very adventure-filled week of caving and walking and there’s still so much we’d love to do.  We loved the warm welcome, great to see you again.  Another great couple of meals at the Red Lion, so convenient.  We will definitely be back sooner rather than later, in fact we’ve already started checking out dates for next year!  Thank you so much for a wonderful week.  L&M November 2018

We have had a wonderful week in this beautiful area enjoying long walks, knowing we would return each evening to the comfort of Tub Cottage.  Thank you for thinking of everything, from the very welcome Welcome Pack to the comprehensive information pack.  The latter was really useful when our dog damaged a claw on a walk and needed surgery at the vets.  They were fantastic!  We have visited the area before staying in other cottages, Tub Cottage is far and away the best and we will be back!  V&S&T, October 2018

The fact that this is our ninth visit to the beautiful village of Litton and the fourth in this fantastic cottage, says it all!  There’s nothing to add to my earlier list of superlatives.  Once again the weather has been fairly kind, though not always sunny.  We’ve revisited several of our favourite places and added some new ones, notably Lyme Park at Stockport, only 50 minutes drive. We are looking forward to 2019 …. R&M, September 2018

We have all thoroughly enjoyed our week’s stay at the beautiful Tub Cottage.  It really is a home away from home.  The fantastic welcome pack was much appreciated, a real treat!  It was so lovely too to meet your whole family including those with feathers!  Thank you!  We love the area too, our highlights being fabulous meals at the Merchants Yard restaurant in Tideswell (Sunday dinner and early bird menus were lovely and fantastic children’s meals too).  Amazing rides along the Monsal Trail, brilliant tour of the Treak Cliff Cavern in Castleton and an awesome day at the Chatsworth Farm and adventure playground.  We also loved the bike rides recommended by Eric!  We all agreed that we want to return hopefully in the not too distant future. E,R,I and B, August 2018

Our return visit was as lovely as our first visit last year.  Sometimes a second holiday can be disappointing but that has not been the case at Tub Cottage.  We still have lots of walks to do and tea shops to visit so we hope to come back again.  So many tea shops, so little time!.  Thank you for a lovely week.  G&J, June 2018

It was the warm welcome as we opened the door of Tub Cottage that we remember from our last visit and we were not disappointed on this second visit.  Everything we need and more, immaculately kept, so clean and ordered!  We tried, stupidly, to find fault but could find none!  Our only disappointment is that we have to leave – no doubt to return again some day.  We can only echo what others have written – thank you Leonie , Eric and May, you have created the perfect escape in the Peaks..  A&A, January 2018

We have really enjoyed our week in the lovely Tub Cottage.  Thank you for the warm welcome and goodies.  We loved taking Tubby Teddy out and about.  You really did think of everything!  We haven’t travelled far, but have enjoyed local walks and visiting Chatsworth.  Litton is a lovely village and we have visited the children’s playground on a number of occasions.  We are going to miss Derbyshire, including this very lovely cottage, beautiful scenery and especially the Derbyshire Oatcakes!  Thanks for everything.  J, E and W., August 2017

Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful cottage – we’ve had a great week!  We’ve been fortunate to have had a week of sunshine and have managed to climb Kinder Scout, walk around Errwood Reservoir, cycle the Monsal Trail and visit Derwent Dam, Dovedale and Burbage Edge.  We followed your recommendation and picked up some meat, bread and vegetables from the local shops to use for a beef casserole in the slow cooker, and it was fabulous!  Will definitely be putting a slow cooker on my Christmas list!  Thanks again, S, J, A and J, August 2017.  PS The steak and ale pie at the Red Lion is a winner!

Really enjoyed our return visit to this fabulous, well-equipped cottage, and really got into the swing of Wakes Week by entering the Inter-Inns 5k race!  We class this part of the world as our second home and hope to be back at Tub Cottage before too long.  Thank you Leonie, Eric and May. L, M and Benson the dog.  June 2017

Here we are again!  It doesn’t seem possible that it was a whole year ago since we were here.  We walked in and it felt like home from home. So welcoming and warm – it’s impossible not to relax here! Happy New Year – spent at the Red Lion, brilliant evening.  Lovely walks, lovely weather, lovely house! The Bs and the Ts, December 2016

We’ve had a wonderful week at this beautifully appointed cottage.  We were thrilled to find the welcome tray with treats for all and the gorgeous teddies that our children will take back as a reminder of their holiday.  A fantastic day at Chatsworth – the Nutcracker Christmas was mesmerising.  Also a great trip to Hardwick Hall, Eyam, Castleton and a return trip to Chatsworth Farm Shop, great for foodies and gifts.  Just remembered we forgot to revisit the reservoirs, a great excuse for a return trip to Tub Cottage next year!  Shady our dog loved his nightly walks to the Red Lion and looks forward to meeting up again with his new friend Humphrey. Hope to see you again and thank you for your thoughtful recommendations. H,A,B and M and Shady the dog, Hampshire, December 2016

We have fallen in love with Tub Cottage and want to stay forever!  It’s a superbly modern renovation which retains a traditional cottage feeling.  There’s very obviously been great  attention to detail including a fab selection of books, CDs, DVDs, games, maps, local information and high quality equipment, fixtures and fittings (we wanted for nothing!).  The welcome pack was thoughtful and generous and we loved that it included eggs laid by your own hens (named after pasta!) and a gorgeous hand drawn welcome card by your daughter.  We have had a wonderful time enjoying soggy walks and cycle rides…then an amazingly sunny and stunning Stanage Edge walk on our last day.  Everyone we have met in the village (yourselves, village shop ladies, Red Lion staff and locals) have been extremely welcoming and friendly.  Thank you!  T&J, November 2016

This is our seventh visit to this wonderful part of England and to this very special village of Litton and its community.  As for Tub Cottage, the superlatives throughout the pages of the Guest Book say it all. Once again we have been blessed with the most wonderful early Autumn weather.  A gentle walk with the dog on a warm September evening through Cressbrook Dale and Tansley Dale, followed by a pint in the Red Lion, is the nearest thing you will find to heaven on earth anywhere!  Add to that the comfort and amenities here at Tub Cottage and you have a perfect holiday.  Thanks to Leonie and Eric again for making us so welcome.  Until next year…. R&M, and Tilly the dog, Wiltshire, September 2016

We have so enjoyed our week in beautiful Tub Cottage, I now want a grey kitchen!  Loved the views and because we had the warmest of weather we sat outside whenever we returned “home”.  As we often come to the Peak District for the day walking, it was a real treat to decide only 3 weeks before to come and stay for the first time, Tub was an easy choice to make.  Enjoyed another lovely day at Chatsworth.  A visit to Matlock, this time the Cable Car and the Caves tour, and Buxton – the gardens looking beautiful.  Some short local walks and a memorable 50 mile cycle ride with a feed station in Litton made my husband’s holiday complete!  Many thanks for the goodies, the warm welcome you gave us, hopefully we will stay again.  C&G, Lincolnshire, June 2016

Absolutely gorgeous.  Quiet, incredibly well appointed.  Everything you could want and more.  Litton is a lovely place, the people friendly.   The Red Lion does great food, very welcoming including the black labrador called Humphrey who brings you cushions!  The village shop is excellent and has a Post Office where you can get cash Mon, Tues and Thurs.  It’s run on a volunteer basis, is a coffee shop, stocks all the essentials and excellent home made cakes, note it is cash only.  A brilliant week.  A wonderful cottage.  M&F, February 2016

Wow, what a lovely cottage!  Welcome pack – brilliant idea! Leonie and Eric made us feel very welcome.  The cottage was spotless on arrival.  Just love everything about it!  Thank you so much for letting us stay here.  We have got to know the area very well.  Lots of brilliant walks in and around the surrounding villages.  New Year’s Eve at the Red Lion was a perfect way to see in the New Year.  Jeannie (the landlady) as a hostess is such a lovely person.  Already booked Tub Cottage for same time 2016/17.  Thank you!  K,D,J and R, December 2015

From the moment we looked around this cottage in 2014 we knew we would enjoy our sixth visit to Litton. What a wonderful place to stay – beautifully equipped and renovated, and absolutely everything thought of whatever the weather, In our case we’ve been lucky yet again with plenty of sunshine which has enabled us and the dog to revisit all our favourite walks and pubs. The Red Lion continues to to be a welcoming haven of good food, good beer and good company. And if you like a good pint, try the Anglers Rest at Millers Dale as well.  We’re coming back next year…  R&M&Tilly the dog, Wiltshire, September 2015

Love, Love, Love Tub Cottage! Not much more to say!  Fantastic cottage, done up to a high standard, filled with everything that you would need for an amazing stay. Thank you for thinking of everything.  Board games, torches, kitchen utensils, plasters, dog towels and poo bags! What more would you need.  Having stayed in many self catering cottages over the years, this has been the best equipped one yet. Very Thoughtful.  The welcome tray was a real treat too.  Thank you very much xxx.  The G Family, July 2015

We have had a truly superb weekend here at Tub Cottage. It is so warm and welcoming and Eric has done an amazing job on the restoration – from the beautifully appointed hand crafted, bespoke kitchen, to the well designed contemporary bathroom; every detail has been considered.  It is an excellent location for exploring the beauty of Derbyshire; even local walks provided us with stunning views.  Many, many thanks to Leonie, Eric and May for the warmest of welcomes, we’ve had such a memorable break. Congratulations to you all on the success of Tub Cottage and for making it such a special place that people can enjoy for many years to come.  The Ts and Ks, Sussex, May 2015

A perfect five day break with amazing weather!  The cottage is, we found, as described “5 star” with the attention to detail that only an Engineer can provide.Great walks, great village atmosphere and of course great beer & food at the Red Lion.  We hope to return soon. K&I, April 2015

A fairly late decision to spend a week in the Peaks was amply rewarded by finding Tub Cottage and Litton. Heavy snow transformed the area into a winter paradise for us and our new dog Pip and the cottage was a warm and welcome home to return to when the cold got too much for us.  Fabulous cottage, beautifully restored and extremely well appointed, Leonie, Eric and May have attended to every detail.   A fantastic week, we are sorry to leave and Pip says “thanks for the biscuits”.  R&J, Hampton Court, January 2015

A fabulous cottage, a real home from home.  The cottage is perfectly located for some great walks.  Your fabulous cottage has everything we needed and the Red Lion pub across the green does excellent food. Thank you for the welcome pack and the slippers are a great idea and so warm.  We hope to visit again.  B&S, Suffolk, November 2014
