Great days out can be experienced with children in the Peak District. The following is a selection recommended by our daughter (see our places to visit page for more information):
Chatsworth House Farm and Adventure Playground – see the cows being milked, cuddle a guinea pig and get lost in the awesome adventure playground
Local outdoor pursuit centres – canoeing, abseiling, archery, climbing – great for older children and adventurous Mums and Dads!
Quad biking – speed around the Derbyshire countryside on your own quad bike – don’t worry parents, safe instruction and well supervised!
Safe cycling trails at Monsal Trail and Tissington Trail – take a picnic or stop off at various cafes/pubs. Experience the tunnels on the Monsal Trail and imagine that you are a steam train – make as much whistle noise as you like and hear the echo.
Gullivers Kingdom, Matlock Bath – particularly suited for younger children – you can also stop off at The Heights of Abraham for a Cable Car ride – fantastic views and very high!
Buxton Riding School – own a pony session or for the over 12’s, why not go on a trek with Mum and Dad
Joddrell Bank – see the gigantic telescope and learn about the stars.
Mayfield Animal Park – visit this lovely park to see a variety of animals from all around the world. Featuring Alpacas, Reindeer, Meerkat, Goats and lots more, plus a fabulous cafe selling delicious food.
Hathersage Outdoor swimming pool (heated) – great to swim in the rain!
Thor’s Cave – enjoy a leisurely stroll (or bike ride) along the Manifold Valley and count the steps up to the giant Thor’s cave which was inhabited in the Stone Age. Stop off at Wetton Mill Café for cake and a drink and paddle in the river.
And if you just want to visit a good playground, take a 2 minute walk from Tub Cottage to Litton Playground!
