Welcome to our Spring 2023 blog – Spring has well and truly arrived in the Peak District over the Easter bank holiday weekend with some welcome sunshine and dry weather.  Lambs are appearing in the fields, the curlew and skylark are calling and the daffodils look beautiful on the village green here in Litton. We have also seen our first swallow, so they are on their way back! 

It’s been lovely to welcome many return guests to Tub Cottage this year, in fact, the majority of our bookings this year are return guests, with some on their 12th visit!  It’s great to know that Tub Cottage is becoming a real home from home.

The Red Lion pub in the village is still as busy as ever, with wonderful food and excellent beers on offer.  A new Italian restaurant has opened in Tideswell, Sal’s Italian, serving a delicious range of pizza and pasta.  It’s bring your own drink, so keeps the price down too.  Tideswell pubs are also great for food with The George and The Anchor recently launching new menus and The Merchant Yard restaurant is also well worth a visit in more formal surroundings.  We are very lucky to have all these in walking distance from Tub Cottage and there’s always the brilliant fish and chip shop in Tideswell too! 

The village will be celebrating the King’s Coronation in May, with a street party, BBQ and music over the bank holiday weekend.   There’s also the annual Wakes and Welldressing celebrations during the last week in June, when the village displays two well dressings, children’s maypole dancing and country dancing and refreshments in the school.  “Litton Night” is on the Tuesday evening with fairground rides, tug of war, live music and BBQ, so lots to look forward to as the village community comes together.  

Tideswell also hosts its annual food festival at the beginning of May with streets full of amazing food and drink and The George at Tideswell also hosts a live music festival over the August bank holiday weekend.   

All in all the Peak District is a great place to visit with so much to do and see, not forgetting the amazing scenery and wildlife – we look forward to welcoming you to Tub Cottage during 2023!
